Natura 2000 is a European wide network of natural sites, defined for preserving the most rare, typical and endangered species and natural habitats. Natura 2000 breaks with strict nature protection of areas or species. The idea is to search collectively a balanced and sustainable management, which takes into account the economic and social concerns. It recognizes that the state of nature is closely linked with evolution of the economic activities and more largely, with organization of the society.
The drafting of a management plan for each Natura 2000 site will be a huge opportunity for local people to think together, on new questions which seems, until now, to be very difficult to answer.
For preserving wild species, it is essential to protect and manage the habitats essential with their life and their reproduction. For maintaining the natural habitats, it is necessary to promote the human activities and the uses, compatible with them and to promote them by reconciling ecological with economic and social requirements. The
Natura 2000 network is composed of sites designated by each Member State following to the European “Birds” Directives of 1979 and the “Habitats” Directive of 1992. The constitution of the Natura 2000 network represents a true stake of durable development for remarkable rural territories. This network contributes to the preservation of the planet and to the sustainable development on the European level.
The objective of this chapter of the project is first of all to prepare the documentation (Standard Data Form of data - SDF) and maps of the sites which are proposed in the Region West. In this aim, 3 steps are planned:
But the project aims also to develop a certain number of specific tools for the implementation of Natura 2000 in Romania:
