The regional Environment protection Agency, its structure and its partners

The Regional Agency of Timisoara is responsible for the whole Region West, which means the counties (Judets) of TIMIS, ARAD, HUNEDOARA et CARAS SEVERIN

Each Judet is covered by a Local Environment Protection Agency (LEPA). The LEPA Timis is in the same building as the REPA Timisoara.The REPA is subordinated to the National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA) and its Director is nominated by the President of NEPA.

Since Mai 2005, The law precise that LEPAs are subordinated to NEPA directly (without intervention of REPA). There is not hierarchical between REPAs and LEPAs. The roles of the REPA are following:

• Carry on activities of NEPA on a regional level
• Collaborate with LEPAs in the region for preparing synthetic reports and preparing environmental databases at the regional level
• Coordinate the preparation and the follow up of the Regional action plan for Environment
• Each year evaluate and update with the NEG and other public authorities the regional plan or environmental chapters of other sectoral regional plans
• Secure a specialised assistance to local agencies
• Collaborate with the NEG for letting environmental legislation be respected

• Manage and published, respecting the law, environmental information on the regional level.

  The REPA is directed by and executive Director, who is designated by the President of NEPA after approval of the Minister of Environment.
